Frequently Asked Questions:
1. I'm getting a message that the Fields in the Table Don't match the Database. What should I do?
If you have not done so, download and install Service Pak 1 for Normal Installation or Service Pak 4 if you are running from a Trial Version. On the File Menu, select Repair Database.
2. Why don't the Pedigrees print correctly when I fill the names in on the Pedigree Format?
You must tab out of the typing box or press enter in order to force the system to check to see if the name you typed is in the animal file and to prompt you to add it. If you have not been seeing the prompt message then you have not had a chance to save the names in the Animal File. All animals used in a pedigree must be saved in the Animal File in order for their ancestors to be found and filled in. The only time you would not save the animal's name is if you have mispelled it in the box.
3. Why does the name of a male or female parent fill in from the list misspelled when I type it correctly
This behavior would indicate that the male or female parent's name is spelled incorrectly in it's own record in the animal file. To correct the problem, find the animal's name in the list at the top of the Add/Fix Animals function. It will likely be spelled incorrectly. Double click the name in the list and correct the spelling then save the animal's record.
4. I get an error that refers to Mlimit Not Found.
If you are having a problem on entering or exiting a function that refers to MLimit* not found or some variation of that message, download Service Pak 1 and follow instructions provided to install it. If you are still having trouble, click on Fix Limit Error on the File Menu.
5. When I enter data in a typing box and then click save (or Type F4), my changes don't get saved.
You need to type Enter or Tab after you type in the changes so that the cursor moves off the typing box you are in. This will ensure that the changes get recorded when you click SAVE or type F4. There is a fix for this behavior in the Service Pak downloads, Service Pak 1 for regular installations, 4 if your installation was originally made from a trial version.
6. How do I print the User Manual?
The User Manual is on the CD Rom you received. It is a PDF file which means you need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader to open it and review it or print it. There is a copy of the install for Adobe Acrobat Reader on the CD Rom as well. To print the user manual, Double Click on the file named Animtrachelp_.pdf on the CD Rom. If you already have acrobat reader on your computer, it will come up and the manual will be displayed. If you do not have the necessary software install, you'll get the Windows Dialog where you select a program to use in opening your file. Cancel that dialog and find the file named ar40eng.exe on the CD Rom and double click it to install the reader. Then go back and double click the user manual file again to open it and read it.
7. Why do I have to have all the animals that I don't own in my lists?
It is necessary for all of the names to be available so that the pedigrees will fill in and so that the quick fill typing boxes can search for names you are trying to type. If you get a message saying that a name you typed is not in file, you will likely want to add it to the file unless you have typed it incorrectly. If you are working in ADD/Fix Animals or Pedigree and don't add the name to the file, then your pedigrees will have missing names.
8. My Animal List is too long when it prints in Landscape Mode. Can I print it in portrait?
You can download Service Pak 5 below that will replace the landscape files with portrait files. The 4 files that create the animal list are Animxref.*, Anxrfak1.*, animdrrf.*, animxrfb.*.
9. When I attempt to attach photos, the name of the file shows up in the photo box, not the actual picture or I get an error message. Why?
This behavior occurs because you are running an old version of Windows 95. The OLE features which allow the photos to be attached need to be upgraded. You can get an OLE Windows 95 upgrade from the Microsoft Web Site www.microsoft.com
It can also happen if you are attempting to attach a JPG or GIF formatted photo and you do not have a "Microsoft Recognized" software product to recognize the format that your photo is in. When in doubt, save your photo as a BMP file.
10. The pedigree does not fill in correctly in the Fillable pedigree format. What's wrong?
There can be a number of things. You must remember to tab or press the enter key when you finish typing the name in order for the function to record the name. If you want to reuse the names in another pedigree, you'll need to click the first or second button on the "Save Dialog" that pops up (for names that are not already in the system). If the name is already recorded in the Animal File, you will not get a message.
Remember, the most efficient way to add pedigree information where you want to include registration numbers, colors, birthdates, etc about the ancestors is to add them in the Animal Records, ADD/Fix Animals. If you start on the right side of the pedigree adding each ancestor in the "4th Column" with all of it's details. Then when you go to add the 3rd Column animals, their parents will already be in the list.
11. I get an error referring to "LControlSource Property Not found". What do I do?
This is caused by selecting the Save Button from the tool bar by Clicking Save or pressing F4 when the cursor is not positioned on a "Regular Typing Box" (i.e. on a button or in a large edit typing box). To prevent it from happening always tab out of edit boxes to typing boxes before clicking Save. But when the error does happen, you can click ignore and it will not cause any damage. There are usually two errors that need to be ignored. We have made an attempt to eliminate most occurances of the error and you can download and install Service Pak 1 to make those corrections.
12. I get an error "Variable not found PurFrom" or "Variable not found Purdate". (01/19/2002)
Down load the Fixanimal.exe file (link below) and run it in the Animal Trac folder to add the missing data fields. Save the file in the folder named C:\ATVER40. Then find the file using Windows Explorer and double click on it in the C:\atver40 folder.
13. When I run my invoices they all have the same Invoice Number.(01/19/2002)
Down load the Fixinvce.exe file (link below) and run it in the Animal Trac folder to replace the invoice number duplicates with new invoice numbers. Save the file in the folder named C:\ATVER40. Then find the file using Windows Explorer and double click on it to extract it. Then find the file FixInvno.exe. Double click it to start the fix utility program. You will get a dialog screen where you indicate the Invoice date that was on the bill you want to fix. Also enter the new invoice number you want to start with. The program will start with the invoice date you indicate and make a new number for each customer billed from that point on. A list will show on the screen at the end that you can print to keep as a cross reference.
Down Loads (12/02/2002 and 03/24/2002 )
